Principal team experience

Before and alongside Brantley Industries, our principals held engineering and leadership roles at Westinghouse, Duke Energy / Progress Energy, Bechtel and TAE Technologies, and more recently on SMR and fusion programs including NuScale (via Kinectrics) and Zap Energy.

Small modular reactor · Featured

NuScale SMR Reactor Building Crane: Senior Design Verification

Lead Nuclear Structural Engineer (contract via Kinectrics) · Aug 2022 – Aug 2023

Served as senior design verifier for the NuScale Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Reactor Building Crane, including the crane and lower block assembly connections, ensuring compliance with ASME NOG-1. Also performed engineering and design verification for ANO, Brunswick (BNP), Harris (HNP), Oconee and Grand Gulf.

Fusion

Zap Energy: Principal Engineer, Fusion Device Components

Principal Engineer · July 2023 – present

Structural and thermal FEA, design basis development, and qualification of first-of-a-kind fusion device components to ASME BPVC Section III, Division 4.

AP1000 (Westinghouse)

Lead engineering and structural analysis supervision for AP1000 containment internal structures and structural modules: design criteria, design methods, load reconciliation, mass concrete and severe thermal gradients. Developed the ANSYS parametric analysis approach for qualifying nuclear structural modules for 200+ loading conditions. Work supported VC Summer, Vogtle, Sanmen and Haiyang.

Crystal River 3 (Progress / Duke Energy)

ISFSI project concrete/steel analysis and design, spent fuel pool system engineering, Radio project lead engineering, steam generator replacement root cause investigation, construction support, and the Duke fleet seismic response to Fukushima.

Watts Bar Unit 2 (Bechtel)

NQA-1 containment analysis, steel containment vessel and internal structures (RPV supports, pipe whip systems), pipe support design and the Integrated Interaction Program.

Fusion & nuclear medicine (TAE)

First wall technology development, reactor supports, pulsed power supports, blast shields and diverter platforms, and lead neutronics for a BNCT program: facility shielding, activation analysis and beam shaping using DAGMC/MCNP on HPC.
